You are probably familiar with the situation where your mobile is running out of power and there is no electrical outlet nearby.
Mobile batteries rarely last very long, but with a power bank you can charge your phone and other devices - wherever you are. Even if there is no electrical outlet nearby.
In addition to answering the above questions, we will on top of that throw in our recommendations on what you can also use your power bank for. You will also receive a thorough guide to which size of power bank will suit your needs.
Most people have experienced running out of power prematurely - it's never a good time when it happens.
A power bank can be described as a portable rechargeable battery, with which you can charge various types of USB devices without having to rely on an electrical outlet nearby.
For example, a power bank can be used to charge phones, tablets, iPads and also bluetooth speakers, and in some cases laptops.
A power bank can come in different designs and variations - and there is also an extensive market, so the opportunity to match your taste is great.
The size may vary slightly, but as a starting point they all have approximately the same size as a modern smartphone, and are therefore easy to carry in your bag or pocket.
With a power bank, you make sure that you do not run out of power on your iPhone, smartphone, tablet or iPad.
Smartphones and iPhones today can do a lot of things, with the many apps that make everyday life easier for all of us - and that can often mean that we need a charger.
That's why the power bank is incredibly popular: They are easy to carry in your bag and connect easily to, for example, your mobile or iPad while you are on the go. The power bank gives you extra power when you need it, wherever you are: on summer vacation, on festival, on the plane or just away from home.
Some power banks have multiple USB outputs so you can charge multiple devices at the same time - and often other needs that are good to have on hand are also considered, for example, built-in flashlight or solar panel.
How to get the most out of your power bank
You can charge all types of electrical equipment with your power bank.
The obvious thing to use your power bank for is precisely your mobile phone, and in principle you can charge all equipment that includes a charging cable with a USB connector. However, make sure to check if the equipment requires a more powerful charger than your power bank can handle - for example, it is important to check before you start charging your laptop.
New models, such as the new MacBook, or other types of computers that are charged via USB C can be charged via a power bank if your power bank has a USB C output. There are also powerbanks with what is called Quick Charge that can charge your mobile phone extra fast so you can continue to use your phone.
Most power banks are equipped with a safety feature that ensures that the power bank does not overheat or short circuit. If you drop your power bank or it is otherwise damaged, you may damage the safety function! In that case, we recommend that you use your powerbank carefully - and best of all, it is to replace it when damaged!
! In general, we DO NOT recommend that you charge via the power bank in, for example, the bed, on the sofa or in a bag.
For example, you can charge:
- Tablets and iPads
- Running watches
- GPS
- The digital camera
- Bluetooth speakers
- GoPro camera
How to charge a power bank
You charge the power bank in the socket and you can also choose to connect it to your laptop or computer's USB port.
When the light is on, the power bank indicates that it is ready to recharge your devices.
When the power bank has run out of power, simply recharge it so that it is ready for the next time you need it.
Basically, most power banks can be charged about 500 times, and if you find that your power bank has faster energy loss, it is time you should consider buying a new one.
Make sure your power bank is fully charged. When the power bank is charged, you plug the USB cable into your device's own charging cable into the power bank and the other end of the plug into your mobile - just like if you used your regular charger at home. Often the power bank will immediately start charging your device - but some models are equipped with an on / off button - which you must activate before charging begins.
How much can a power bank charge?
Before we can provide a useful answer to this, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the unit of measurement that helps to indicate the size of your power bank.
When you buy a power bank, you will always be informed of how many mAhs are in the power bank. This is the indication of how much power it can charge your equipment with. Based on the size, you can estimate approximately how much a power bank can charge.
At the same time, you must take into account that it requires a different amount of energy to charge your devices, depending on which electronic equipment you want to charge. For example, charging an iPad requires more power than charging an iPhone.
But what does mAh mean then? mAh means milliamp hour. Based on the size of mAh in each power bank, you can get an indication of the energy capacity of the battery.
It can vary how much power is needed to charge a device, e.g. a mobile phone, but as a starting point you can expect to use approx. 1800-2000 mAh, to charge a smartphone. A power bank of 10,000 mAh can in principle thus be able to charge a smartphone 5 times, but in practice it is not completely valid. Among other things, power losses during charging process must be taken into account, and this makes it a little difficult to give an exact answer to how many charges you have in your powerbank. Other factors that are significant for the number of charges are, for example, worn batteries in your electrical equipment, temperature and general power loss in the cables - and this can give a difference of up to 25%.
The quality of your power bank can also affect the power loss - therefore it is not advisable to buy a cheap powerbank. If you are in doubt about how many mAh your powerbank contains, you can often check it by looking at the specifications in the manual, but often it is also stated on the powerbank itself. If you want to know more about how much power your iPhone needs for charging, for example, you can easily find this information by searching on Google - e.g. iPhone X + mAh.
We have made an overview, which can give an indication of how many charges a power bank contains. As a starting point, it can be said, as mentioned earlier, that 1800-2000 mAh is used, and this will give the following number of charges in a power bank:
2600 mAh = 1 charge
5200 mAh = 2 charges
7800 mAh = 3 charges
10400 mAh = 4 charges
20000 mah = 7 charges
Save power/electricity - this is how you get the most out of your mobile, tablet and laptop
- Turn off the phone when not in use
- Turn off auto-sync of emails
- Dim the screen light
- Turn off wi-fi
- Turn off vibrations - Vibrations use more power than ringtones
- Use manual retrieval of emails, and retrieve only when necessary
- Turn off GPS and / or location services
- Disable updating of apps
- Minimize auto screen lock time
- Turn off Bluetooth
- Avoid using animated backgrounds
- Turn off apps running in the background.
